Hotlinking is a term that describes the addition of images on a given site through the use of direct links. When you have website A, for instance, and a person creates site B and wishes to include a few images from your site, they could either save the images and then include them on their website or they could simply place links on their website to the images on yours. Thus, whenever a visitor opens Internet site B, site B will steal traffic from your own Internet site A, because the images will load from your website hosting account. This approach is usually used for documents and other kinds of files too. If you'd like to prevent 3rd parties from stealing your content and from using your own hosting account’s resources, you can limit their capability to use direct links to your files on their sites.

Hotlinking Protection in Cloud Web Hosting

As our cloud web hosting feature a simple and practical hotlink protection tool, you'll be able to secure your content from showing on third-party sites with literally just two clicks, even if you don't have very much experience with such matters. The tool comes with the Hepsia hosting Control Panel and when you open it, you will just need to choose the domain or subdomain which you want to protect. In addition, you may also select if the hotlink protection will be active for the default domain root folder or exclusively for a subfolder. You will not need to do anything else, because our system will create an .htaccess file automatically within the desired location and will include the needed code inside it. All sites with active hotlink protection shall be listed inside the same section, so you can easily disable this service for any of them with just a click.

Hotlinking Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company and you discover that somebody has hotlinked any of your images, you may use the security tool which we have designed and incorporated into our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel. As soon as you enable this feature, a server-generated image will appear on the third-party website as a substitute for your real images. You will only need to go to the Hotlink Protection section inside the CP and choose the domain or subdomain your Internet site uses from a handy drop-down menu - it is as elementary as that. If needed, you'll also have the option to enable the feature only for a specific subfolder and not for the website altogether. Deactivating the protection is as effortless - return to the same section, check the box next to the given website and then click on the Delete button.
